Importance of Jiu Jitsu Drilling and Proper Technique

Perfect technique in Jiu Jitsu

jiu Jitsu training

Contrary to popular belief, practice doesn't make perfect! Only "perfect practice makes perfect."

Of course, there's value in just getting some exercise at the gym from getting your body moving, but if you want to become an effective martial artist, you need to spend the extra time working on the repetition of proper technique!

Extra is always better in BJJ

Luckily, we have the coaching to teach you the proper technique! With 10 Jiu Jitsu black belts spread across dozens of BJJ classes per week in the perfect location , plus tons of open time and space.

And here are some of the main reasons why drilling and proper technique are a important key in Jiu Jitsu:

  1. Reinforce Muscle Memory: Drilling helps to reinforce muscle memory and develop automatic responses to different situations. By repeating movements, Jiu Jitsu practitioners can create a "muscle memory" that allows them to react instinctively in real-life situations.

  2. Improve Technique: Proper technique is essential in Jiu Jitsu to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in executing techniques. Drilling helps to refine and improve technique by allowing the practitioner to focus on specific movements and details.

  3. Reduce Risk of Injury: Proper technique also helps to reduce the risk of injury during training and competition. By executing techniques correctly, practitioners can avoid unnecessary strain on joints and muscles, reducing the risk of sprains, strains, and other injuries.

  4. Develop Timing and Speed: Drilling can also help to develop timing and speed in executing techniques. By repeating movements, practitioners can improve their reflexes and timing, allowing them to react more quickly and effectively to their opponent's movements.

  5. Build Confidence: Drilling and mastering proper technique can help to build confidence in Jiu Jitsu practitioners. By developing a strong foundation in fundamental techniques, practitioners can feel more comfortable and confident in executing more advanced techniques.

We can talk all day about the value of our programs and coaches (which are world class), but the real value of training at Evolution MMA and Alliance Jiu-Jitsu is that we keep the doors open.

When you join the family, this is YOUR gym. You can use the space to become the best version of yourself every day of the week.

Also the gym opens an hour before classes every day so you can work on conditioning and technique.

Hit the heavy bags, swing the kettle bells, or bring a partner to work on that transition from class yesterday. Or stay late, pull aside your favorite training partner, and get some reps in!

So don't forget, to tape your fingers, wrap your wrists and spend the time to become the best YOU.

Wrap fingers and wrists for Jiu Jitsu Class?

Here are some reasons why some of our Jiu Jitsu students and instructors tape up before class:

  1. Injury Prevention: Jiu Jitsu involves a lot of gripping, twisting, and pulling, which can put a lot of strain on the wrists and fingers. Tapering helps to stabilize the joints and prevent injuries like sprains and strains.

  2. Better Grip: Tapering can also improve grip strength by providing a more secure hold on an opponent's gi or body. This can make it easier to execute techniques and prevent the opponent from escaping or countering.

  3. Comfort: Tapering can also make it more comfortable to grip and control an opponent. By creating a snug, supportive fit, tapering can reduce discomfort and fatigue in the hands and wrists during long training sessions.

It's important to note that wrapping or/ taping up for Jiu Jitsu class should be done properly to avoid causing any harm to the joints or restricting blood flow. Please ask any blue belt or higher or any Evolution MMA instructor Jiu Jitsu if your have any questions on how to tape or wrapp up for class. We are always here to help!
