Boxing equipment is critical for any boxer, and one of the essential pieces of equipment is boxing gloves. These gloves are not only mandatory for any official boxing match, but they also protect the boxer's hands from injury while training. They serve as a cushion to absorb the impact of punches, preventing damage to the fists, knuckles and joints. Without gloves, boxers are at risk of cuts, bruises, fractures and other injuries that can be debilitating and potentially career-ending. Boxing gloves come in different sizes and weights to meet the needs of each boxer, and the selection depends on the fighter's weight, skill level and purpose. In summary, boxing gloves are a fundamental piece of boxing equipment that provides vital protection to the boxer's hands and is necessary for the fighter's safety and performance.
Choosing gloves for boxing depends on factors like hand size and weight preference, as well as the intended use of the gloves - from synthetic leather to genuine leather.
Boxing gloves come in different weight sizes. From 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 ounces. If this is your first time boxing we recommend going with a good 12oz pair of gloves. They are light enough for when we have the bag workouts and heavy enough for a light sparring.
This is were hopefully you plan to keep boxing and we know you will end up loving the sport!
We know people want to go right to Everlast to grab a pair and go.
We do not recommend those at all.
They tend to come apart after your first couple months of classes and you will end up buying another pair.
Below are 2 brands we recommend starting out with different styles that will last for years to come:
If you are a first time boxer, it is important to understand the necessity of hand wraps and protective gear. These are essential tools that allow you to safely practice and compete in your sport. In addition to providing support and protection for your hands, hand wraps also help to prevent injury. They are especially important for new boxers who may not yet have developed the necessary strength and technique to properly protect themselves.
Starting out in Evolutions MMA boxing classes you will only be required to have a Mouthguard and handwraps for protective gear.
Headgear is recommended for hard sparring and the Golden gloves team and we do not let beginners spar until they are developed into advanced classes.
If you feel more and would like to wear headgear as a beginner that is great it’s just not needed or required for beginners.
With that being said we recommend the following mouthguards and handwraps for boxing classes in our gym. Remember, your safety is your responsibility!
We recommend 180 inch handwraps and are the best for support and safety
